Sam Froud claimed his first win as Interim boss of Abingdon United Women, progressing in the Berks and Bucks FA Women's Senior Cup in a 4-2 win over Woodley United.
United took the lead from a corner kick. Molly Lygo sent a dangerous ball into the area from the left, which was headed home at the back post by Libby Gilmore in the 12th minute of the game.
Lauren May added to United's lead, scoring from the spot on her birthday, in the 19th minute.
Mimi Hodges fired home a curling left-footed effort shortly after in the 22nd minute, to put United in the driving seat.
However, Woodley got one back before the break. A ball in from the left was fired home, giving the visitors a lifeline in the game.
A long-range effort early in the second half was well saved by United 'keeper Caitlin Crierie, as Woodley looked to gain some momentum.
Despite the pressure, Abingdon extended their margin back to three, and it was Lauren May again. After good work from Mimi Hodges down the right, a ball played across to May was tapped home by the striker, to put The Yellows on their way to victory.
Woodley United got a second from close range, but it wasn't enough to take the game further than the 90 minutes, as Sam Froud's Yellows booked their place in the Quarter-Finals of the competition.
Sunday's game also saw a senior debut for Leah Strange, who signed for the Club in the summer.
United's Player of the Match for our Berks and Bucks FA Women's Senior Cup tie was Millie Hodge. Congratulations, Millie!
Reaction - Nell Boxall
United skipper Nell Boxall reacted to Sunday's win after the game, and was delighted with how the side played after a tough run of results in previous weeks.
Boxall said: "It feels good to win, to win on home soil. We played a good Woodley side, who we knew would come to us and make it a challenge. It feels great to be in the next round of the County Cup. It's something to build on moving forwards.
"Momentum plays a huge part in football. We haven't had that in the last few weeks. We demonstrated a bit more of what we can do as a side, and we're only going to take that as a positive into next week and next few weeks in the run up to Christmas.
"So many things that we've worked on in training we were able to put into practice. Loads of positives, loads of really brilliant performances over the pitch, even with players playing in slightly different positions."
