Match Preview: Abingdon United vs Bridgwater United

Abingdon United WFC7 Dec - 13:14

United return to The Northcourt for the final home game of 2024.

Match Preview written by Jamie Stonehouse

After defeat to Keynsham Town last weekend, The Yellows will be hoping to gain three points for the last time at The Northcourt this year, with a crucial game against Bridgwater United.

The visitors sit in 8th, just one place above The Yellows, which means that a win would put Chris Smith's side one point behind Bridgwater.

Bridgwater come into the game on the back of a 4-0 defeat in the Adobe Women's FA Cup, so will be looking to respond in the league on Sunday afternoon.

These two have already faced each other this season, with United holding onto a tight 1-0 win at Fairfax Park, after goal scorer Mimi Hodges broke the deadlock just before halftime in the opening game of the campaign.

Now that the reverse fixture is at The Northcourt, Abingdon will hope to complete the double against Bridgewater this season.

Pre-Match Thoughts - Chris Smith

United boss Chris Smith is in positive spirits going into Sunday's game, despite defeat last time out in Keynsham.

Smith is taking the positives from recent performances, and the good atmosphere in training this week.

He said: “It’s quite easy to say 'Sunday is a huge game,' but there’s more to it when you think about where we are and what we deserve.

"Nothing is free with football and although we deserved a minimum of one point last week, we came away taking positives because of some good stuff within the 90.

"We’ve trained really well, the mood is good and we just want to get out there and put it all together."
