Ahead of the 2023/24 season, Abingdon United FC are delighted to announce the appointment of John Mills as Mens First Team Manager. John took charge in January as Interim Manager then Manager until the end of the season alongside his playing duties. In that time John steered us to 11 wins and 3 draws in his 18 games in charge, missing out on the Play Offs by just 2 points and reaching the Supplementary Cup Semi Final.
Chairman Alan Midwinter said on the appointment: “We are pleased to be continuing with John Mills as our First Team Manager following a successful spell last season. While missing out on the play offs was frustrating, John maintained progress achieving excellent victories in the closing stages of the season over our two promoted rivals. He also worked hard to support the club and strengthen our core values of respect, hard work and togetherness. We look forward to working closely with him to help work towards our vision of a community focused club going forwards.’’
A delighted John said: “ First and foremost I am over the moon to have been appointed as Abingdon United Manager going forwards. I’d like to thank Alan and the management board for once again putting their faith in me to continue what we’ve started here. We’ve had a generally positive few months and I’ve learnt a lot about the team and myself as a Manager in that time. The players have shown resilience as well as quality and that will put us in good stead going forwards. The foundations have certainly been put in place for us to kick on from 7th place and put ourselves amongst the promotion contenders next season. I feel the club is evolving into a more professional environment and with a couple upcoming changes I look forward to developing this with everyone. The hard work begins now and I will make sure we are raring to go for an important Pre Season. Thank you to everyone for their support and I look forward to seeing you then.”
