United are back on the road, as they head to the MB Frames Stadium to take on The Posset.

Paul Corrie’s side are looking to respond to defeat last time out against Bristol Rovers at The Northcourt.

Olivia Smith’s first senior goal wasn’t enough to take any points off The Gas, but the girls have the chance to put things right against Sunday’s hosts, Portishead Town.

The Posset are just one of three teams in the division to have not yet lost a league game. However, they come into this game on the back of a heavy defeat to last season’s title winners Exeter City in the FAWNL Cup Determining Round.

After their scheduled Division One South West league game against Worthing was postponed, Josh Richards’ side have had an extra week to work on results so far, in what will be another test for the travelling Yellows.

Our last trip to face Portishead was around the same time last season, and it was a positive outcome for United, who came out 4-1 winners.

Grace Eagles scored a brace, whilst Sahara Osbourne-Ricketts and current Abingdon player Erin Hartigan also got on the scoresheet, in a convincing win on the road.

Pre-Match Thoughts – Paul Corrie

It’s been a mixed start to the season for Corrie’s side, who currently sit mid table in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West.

An opening day victory away to Bridgwater United was followed by two league defeats, including last time out against Bristol Rovers.

Corrie is hoping his side can respond to last week’s loss against The Gas.

He said: “As we approach our fourth league game of the season this Sunday against Portishead Town, it's crucial that we bounce back from last week's loss with a strong performance.

“This match is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our resilience and determination to stay in the top half of the league. The squad has shown great potential this season, and now is the time to channel that into a positive result.

“We’ve had productive training sessions this week, focusing on areas for improvement, and I believe the team is ready to deliver a solid response on the pitch.

“Our goal is to come away with a performance that reflects our true capabilities and keeps us moving in the right direction.”

The Player's Thoughts - Alexandra Ashley

Defender Alexandra Ashley has been a regular part of Paul Corrie's side, making 16 appearances during the 2023/24 campaign.

Ashley reflected on the season so far ahead of Sunday's game.

"Last week was hard for us. We knew Sunday wasn’t good enough so since then we have reflected and we have recovered," she explained.

"We are ready to go again and that was shown in training this week. Everyone is ready to put in a shift and we are even more motivated because we know how much better we can be.

"I think Sunday is going to be a good battle for us. From the last time we played them, we know they can punish us if we don’t meet our standards. I know every player is going to put their all in to get another three points.

"Despite last weeks defeats I think this season has been going in a really positive direction.

"The intensity in training is brilliant and it’s great seeing so many young players stepping up and making such an impression so far."
