Away Preview: Actonians vs Abingdon United

Away Preview: Actonians vs Abingdon United

Harry Ware14 Sep 2024 - 11:33

The Yellows are on the road against FAWNL Division One South East outfit Actonians.

United are back in Cup action tomorrow afternoon, as they enter the Preliminary Round of the FAWNL Plate.

Despite a more positive result last time out against Portishead, there was no doubt disappointment that the travelling Yellows couldn't find a winner in Hallen, but they'll have an opportunity to respond on the road again this weekend.

Tomorrow's hosts Actonians have had a good start to their league season, and remain unbeaten in their league campaign so far, sitting 3rd in their respective division.

A convincing 4-0 victory over QPR last time out means the London based side come into tomorrow's game with momentum, and like Abingdon, will be looking to build a cup run.

Pre-Match Thoughts - Paul Corrie

Head Coach Paul Corrie gave his thoughts ahead of Sunday's Cup tie.

Corrie said: "As we prepare for our FAWNL Plate match against Actonians this Sunday, the team is focused on building from the resilience we showed in our last game.

"We will also see this as an opportunity to play some of our younger players to allow them to gain further experience at this level. Last week in league action coming back from 2-0 down at halftime to secure a 2-2 draw demonstrated our character and fight, but we know there's still more to be done.

"This is a great opportunity to channel that momentum into a complete performance. Actonians will be tough opponents, but the squad is fully committed to getting a positive result. We're determined to take the lessons learnt from last week but most importantly enjoy the occasion away from league fixtures."

The Player's Thoughts - Megan Young

Winger Megan Young joined the Club this summer, and has played a regular role for United so far this season.

Ahead of tomorrow's game, she spoke about the campaign so far and what she's expecting from our Cup tie with Actonians.

"It's a mixed start for us,"
she explained.

"I do think we have shown glimpses of our potential, but there's definitely some areas we need to improve on."

"We're trying to compete at the highest level and every game is an opportunity to demonstrate our growth and determination, and to push forward and achieve our goals for the season.

"Signing in the summer I think it's definitely been a fantastic experience. I feel like I've settled into the group well and have been able to integrate into the team smoothy.

"It's definitely an exciting challenge. We're working hard in training and preparing thoroughly. It's a great opportunity to test ourselves against a new opposition and show what we're capable of.

"We're focused and ready to give our all on the pitch."
