The defender becomes Paul Corrie's first new signing of the summer, ahead of the 2024/25 FA Women's National League campaign.

Abingdon United Women's is thrilled to announce the signing of Kara-May Howes, poised to make a significant impact on our football team. This exciting addition marks a new chapter in our club's history as we continue to strengthen our squad.

Kara started playing football from a young age with her twin brother. Playing boys football up to the age of 10, before entering the Oxford United Centre Of Excellence. There until 17, before moving to the MK Dons Centre Of Excellence and getting appearances in the women’s first team.

It wasn’t long before Kara managed to pick up a contract, playing semi-professionally for London Bees. Her highlight of that was getting her first start and a 2-1 win against Aston Villa, playing against the likes of Chloe Kelly and other bigs names.

Kara then moved on and has captained Wycombe Wanderers Women, and last year played for Oxford United Devs, winning the treble.

Kara-May Howes is known for her versatility, capable of playing in various defensive roles and keen to get forward when she can. Her ability to adapt to different tactical setups will provide our team with much-needed flexibility.

A dynamic defender, Howes has been on the radar of a few clubs. Her ability to control the tempo of the game, coupled with her can do hard working attitude makes her a standout performer on the pitch and the type of player we are looking for at AUWFC.

Her leadership qualities are also commendable. Howes has captained her previous team, demonstrating her ability to inspire and lead her teammates through challenging matches. We are confident that her leadership will be invaluable as we aim for new heights this season.

First Team Manager Paul Corrie said: "I am excited with the signing of Kara. In the short time I have known her, it stood out to myself that, not only is she a good football player, but also a good person. Her technical skills, combined with her work ethic and determination, make her a perfect fit for our team. I believe she will help us achieve our goals this season."

The addition of Kara May Howes signifies our club's commitment to building a competitive and dynamic team. Her presence on and off the field is expected to elevate the performance of her teammates. As we gear up for the upcoming season, we look forward to seeing Howes don our jersey and showcase her talent.

Howes - "I can't wait to get going!"

Howes said on signing for United: "I’ve heard about the changes since Christmas and it looked really promising. Speaking to players I know there already, I was interested to see what it was all about.

"With that I also wanted to step my game up and challenge myself and I know with the coaches that Abingdon have, that I would be able to do that. The clubs seem so together and want to build good relationships all around, from the younger age groups and all the way up to first team.

“I’m ecstatic to get the opportunity to play for Abingdon, I can’t wait to get going and get to know the girls better. Everyone has been so welcoming and I’m thrilled to be here!”

Kara May Howes' journey with us is just beginning, and we are excited to witness the incredible moments and achievements that lie ahead.

Welcome to Abingdon United, Kara!
