Club appoints Jason Carbon as Director of Women's Football

Carbon brings a wealth of 30 years of experience to the role, having previously served in various capacities within the sport.

Abingdon United Women's are delighted to announce the appointment of Jason Carbon as the clubs first Director of Women's Football. This strategic move underscores the club's commitment to fostering growth and excellence within its women's football division.

Jason brings a wealth of 30 years of experience to the role, having previously served in various capacities within the sport. Coaching, safeguarding, welfare & empathetic experience from working within youth services was an overwhelmingly factor in him being offered this role.

As an previous link to the club in a capacity of an U18s treble winner, he is more than familiar with the coaches & settings.

Carbon said: “As I celebrate three decades supporting the female game across Oxfordshire, I have been looking for a club who shares my passion to grow this side of their organisation, one which supports players 'on the grass & in the class… Play-days to Pay-days.”

With a strong background in player development, Jason is poised to lead Abingdon United Women's Football Club into an exciting new era.

Women's First Team Manager Paul Corrie said: "I am thrilled to welcome Jason to Abingdon United. His arrival will assist in seeing us going from strength to strength on and off the pitch.

"His extensive experience and proven track record will be invaluable as we continue to build and strengthen. We are confident that under his leadership, our team will achieve new heights and inspire our community."

Club General Manager, Stefan Caira, added: "I echo Paul's sentiments on the appointment of Jason. The club identified this was a position that was required in our growth and saw this as a key appointment; someone who can provide support for the continued development of the women's game. Jason obviously knows the club and has seen the developments of Abingdon United over the last couple of years.

"He's also identified the woman's department growth over the last several years and of course, he has a strong business background, which is the kind of people we want to attract here.

"The team itself has started to come together with the start of pre-season with some key players being retained and long may that continue, and we believe Jason will be a fantastic addition to the group of people behind the scenes who are driving that success."

In his new role, Jason will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of female football, including recruitment and community outreach. He will work closely with our club committee, coaching staff and players to develop strategies that enhance performance to ensure the long-term success of each team.

Carbon continued: “In my opinion, the past & present players and coaches of Abingdon United Women's have done fantastically well securing another season in Tier Four of the FA Women’s National league."

Since last years successes we have seen significant growth by adding the following teams: U10s, U14s, U17s & U18s. This is only the start of our pathway to our development team and First Team.

With a dedicated focus on developing young talent and promoting women's football in the region. The appointment of Jason marks a significant milestone in the club's journey, reflecting its ambition to become a leading force in women's football in Oxfordshire.

Club Chairman, Alan Midwinter said: "We are thrilled to have someone with the quality and experience of Jason joining our club. Both myself and our management team are very much looking forward to working with him this season."
